TransLink begins overnight SkyTrain testing on Expo and Millennium line sections

TransLink says it will run five months of overnight SkyTrain testing on parts of the Expo and Millennium lines starting Oct. 3, 2026, with no customers aboard.

The Story

TransLink will begin overnight testing of all types of SkyTrain cars on sections of the Expo and Millennium lines starting October 3, 2026, and continuing for five months.

The transit agency said the tests will run outside regular service hours, with no customers aboard and no disruptions or reductions to regular SkyTrain service.

TransLink said the testing supports progress toward the opening of its new 40,000-square-foot Operations Control Centre in 2027, which is intended to support major network expansions including the Broadway Subway Extension and the Dave Barrett (Surrey Langley) Extension.

Testing will take place during overnight windows on different days: Saturdays from 1:45 a.m. to 5:45 a.m., Sundays from 1:45 a.m. to 6:45 a.m., and Mondays from 12:45 a.m. to 4:45 a.m.

To reduce impacts on nearby communities, TransLink said it will rotate testing locations across Metro Vancouver rather than repeating in the same area every night, and that alarms and announcements will be suspended where possible. The agency also said testing must occur outside standard service hours to ensure it can be completed safely without disrupting customers.
