BGC South Coast BC has reopened applications for a free 8-week Youth Works program that combines online workshops with paid leadership work in local kids clubs.

Boys and Girls Clubs of South Coast BC is recruiting for a free Youth Works employment program designed to give young adults paid, hands-on experience as Club Activity Leaders.
The opportunity is structured as up to four weeks of online workshops, followed by up to four weeks of paid work and training within BGC South Coast BC’s Club Activity Leader role. The program is intended for participants looking to gain workplace experience while supporting children through organized activities.
A Club Activity Leader’s day is described as a mix of indoor and outdoor programming. The role includes sports, arts and crafts, games and activities, and educational or “STEAM” programming. Participants are also expected to help with planning and deliver day trips to local destinations for youth clubs across the region.
BGC South Coast BC says placements can include additional supports depending on need, including transit funding and clothing for interviews. The organization also notes that paid certification training courses may be included for those who qualify for support, with examples listed including Childcare First Aid, WHMIS, Superhost and other courses.
The program runs through BGC South Coast BC’s network of ten local kids clubs in communities across Metro Vancouver and nearby areas. The clubs are listed in North Vancouver, South Vancouver, East Vancouver, Mount Pleasant, Burnaby, Surrey, North Delta, the City of Langley, Tsawwassen, and Ladner.
BGC South Coast BC says it also offers a financial bonus for participants who successfully complete the program, and that those who complete the Youth Works placement may have a chance at ongoing employment with the organization, including opportunities for advancement.
To be considered, applicants must be between 19 and 30 years old. The organization says the ideal candidate is interested in working with children of various ages, can be punctual and reliable, and is prepared to plan a range of indoor and outdoor activities.
The program is not described as suitable for youth who are taking a break from school but will return to full-time classes immediately after the program ends. BGC South Coast BC specifically says the Youth employABILITY Program is not suited to that situation.
The next intake is scheduled to begin Oct. 13 and run until Dec. 11, 2026. Because spots are limited, the organization advises applying in advance.
