Elections BC published the final list of candidates for Richmond’s four provincial ridings on Saturday night, Oct. 3, ahead of the Oct. 24 provincial election.
The number of candidates varies by riding, with up to five candidates competing in Richmond-Steveston and fewer candidates in other areas.
In Richmond-Steveston, voters can choose from five candidates representing five political parties. Barry Wosk, a business owner who has lived in Richmond all his life, is running for CentreBC. The B.C. Conservative candidate is Gordon Zhang, an instructor at Kwantlen Polytechnic, and the NDP candidate is Bruce Kong.
Two other Richmond-Steveston candidates are running for B.C. Green and CanWest. Luc Burns is the B.C. Green candidate, while Keenan Yang represents the CanWest Party.
In Richmond-Queensborough, three candidates are listed for the Oct. 24 vote across three parties: B.C. Green, the NDP and the B.C. Conservatives. The candidates named are Luc Burns for the B.C. Greens, Dhar Grewal for the NDP and Steve Kooner for the B.C. Conservatives.
In Richmond-Centre, four candidates are listed under four parties. The B.C. Conservatives have Sacha Peter as a candidate, the NDP lists Henry Yao, and the B.C. Green Party candidate is Calvin Dang. The CanWest Party candidate in Richmond-Centre is Lawrence Chen.
In Richmond-Bridgeport, there are only two candidates. Teresa Wat is running for the B.C. Conservatives, and Linda Li is the NDP candidate.
