Cineplex is offering Saturday $3.99 tickets for select family-friendly films throughout October, including Coraline and E.T.
The Story
Cineplex Canada says it is continuing its monthly “Family Favourites” series this October, offering select family-friendly films in theatres every Saturday for $3.99. The lineup is scheduled to run across four Saturdays—Oct. 3, Oct. 10, Oct. 17 and Oct. 24—so moviegoers can plan ahead for specific dates at their local cinemas.
As part of the series, the first film is Coraline, showing on Saturday, Oct. 3. The story follows 11-year-old Coraline as she discovers a hidden door to a strangely idealized version of her life, with the narrative turning on the need to make a frighteningly real sacrifice to stay in the fantasy.
On Saturday, Oct. 10, Cineplex’s Family Favourites lineup includes Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie. The film takes the Paw Patrol to a mysterious dinosaur island after a storm, where they meet Rex, a stranded pup, and face a major rescue after Humdinger’s reckless mining triggers a volcano.
Saturday, Oct. 17 brings The Magic Faraway Tree. In this film, a modern family relocates to the countryside and the children discover a magical tree with eccentric residents, setting up a journey through fantastical lands as the family’s bond is tested and rekindled.
The month’s final Family Favourites screening is E.T. on Saturday, Oct. 24. In the film, an alien left behind on Earth is saved by 10-year-old Elliott, who keeps him hidden while a task force hunts for the extraterrestrial; Elliott’s brother and sister, along with the alien, form an emotional bond as they work to help him get home.
Cineplex also provided details on how ticket purchasing works for the series. The company says tickets can be bought online, and the online checkout includes a $1.50 fee for advanced seat selection, along with shareable digital tickets.
Cineplex’s online ticketing fee structure includes a qualifier: the $1.50 advanced seat selection fee applies to the first four tickets purchased in a single transaction. The company also says Scene+ members pay a $1 online booking fee, and that fee is waived for CineClub members.
Cineplex cautions that ticket prices are subject to applicable taxes, and directs customers to check their local theatres for showtimes for the Oct. 3, Oct. 10, Oct. 17 and Oct. 24 screenings. The company characterized its current operating posture as “business as usual,” despite recently naming a new chief executive officer—Landmark Cinema’s Bill Walker—and beginning a strategic review that “will consider a range of alternatives, including, but not limited to, a potential sale of the company.”
