The Story
The Carnival of Giving raised $131,288 in a two-day event for the Richmond Hospital Foundation, surpassing an original fundraising goal of $100,000.
Funds raised this year will support the Power Up Campaign, which is intended to help the Yurkovich Family Pavilion by adding advanced medical equipment and technology, including support for emergency, surgical and critical care services, as well as patient and family needs.
Event organizers said the initiative brought together families and community partners and noted the results exceeded what they first imagined. “The success of this initiative shows what we can accomplish when everyone contributes in their own way,” said Win Lui, co-organizer of The Carnival of Giving.
The event took place Sept. 12 and 13 at Lansdowne Centre and was organized by Cheryl Kwok Notary Public, Hanabi Events and Win Lui Group, and presented by GSB & Associates Luxury Homes.
Organizers said more than 5,000 people attended the free, family-friendly event, which included over 40 participating local businesses and organizations, mechanical games and rides, interactive activities, health and wellness experiences, food and live entertainment.
Mayor Malcolm Brodie attended, along with Coun. Alexa Loo, Richmond Centre-Marpole MP Chak Au, and Chief Philanthropy Officer of Richmond Hospital Foundation Spencer Gail. Organizers also said additional sponsors and donors provided direct donations to the Richmond Hospital Foundation prior to the event, and that five additional charity sales were organized by local businesses to support the fundraiser.
