Police say a 12-year-old girl died after a shooting at Leon Day Park during a youth football game in Baltimore.
The Story
A 12-year-old girl was fatally shot and three other people were wounded at Leon Day Park in Baltimore while a youth football game was being played, police said Saturday.
Officers responded to the park at 6:15 p.m. after the girl and a woman were found with gunshot wounds, Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley said at a news conference.
Worley said the girl was pronounced dead at a hospital and that the adults’ injuries were not life-threatening.
Worley said two men involved in an argument believed to be over a parking spot began shooting at each other, and the girl and the woman were struck by bullets.
Police were seeking at least two suspects, Worley said, adding that it was not immediately known how many shots were fired.
Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said at the news conference that “two grown men got into an argument, and now a 12-year-old is gone,” calling the incident one of the most disgusting things he had ever seen.
Police said anyone who witnessed the shooting should contact them.
