The Story
CF Montreal’s season ended with a 2-0 loss to the playoff-bound Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2026, at Stade Saputo in Montreal.
Vancouver took the lead through Cheikh Sabaly, who scored in the 50th minute after his initial shot was saved by Montreal goalkeeper Samsy Keita and he finished the rebound into the empty net. Mihail Gherasimencov added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute from a difficult angle to secure the result.
The first half finished goalless after both teams traded long periods of possession with limited offensive impact in the attacking third. Early in the second half, both sides created chances within the first two minutes, including point-blank shots by Sabaly and Noah Streit that struck the crossbar, followed by a strike from Rayan Elloumi that forced a quick save from Keita.
Vancouver finished second in Major League Soccer’s Supporters’ Shield standings. Montreal, which entered the match with a record of 6-20-9, was shut out for the 14th time this season, while the Whitecaps improved to 19-8-8.
Both of Montreal’s main supporters’ groups, Collectif IMFC and 1642MTL, announced they would not be present at the club’s two final home games in any capacity.
