A West Vancouver father says he was stalked, threatened and beaten at Park Royal Mall on Sept. 28, 2026, and he criticized police after a suspect was arrested and later released.
The Story
A West Vancouver father says he was stalked, threatened and beaten in a shopping mall setting, describing an incident that he says began while he was in the parking garage at Park Royal Mall.
Kuang Shen said the assault took place on Sept. 28, 2026, during a Monday evening shopping trip when he was entering the parking garage to retrieve something from his car and heading toward an elevator.
Shen said he heard a man behind him make a threat, recalling the man saying, “I’m going to kill you, and there’s no one to save you.”
He said the situation escalated when the threatening voice caught up to him and he was attacked in front of other people.
Shen told reporters that the man knocked him down, kicked him to the floor, and punched and kicked him repeatedly, while bystanders were “completely horrified.”
Shen said the attacker struck him about 50 or 60 times and that he suffered injuries to his face, neck, hands and hip. He also said he has been unable to eat solid food since the assault.
West Vancouver Police confirmed they arrested a suspect who was later released, pending multiple charges and a future court date.
Shen said he was chased across the mall and described the incident as a case of criminal stalking involving death threats and racial slurs, followed by a brutal attack.
Police would not confirm whether the suspect had a criminal history, whether the assault was random, or whether there were any other victims.
Shen said he plans to press additional charges and described the suspect’s release as a broken promise from the justice system.
He said his family did not witness the attack, but that he believes his children have been psychologically affected, describing trauma and saying they do not want to go to school or go out in public.
