Vancouver police visited the rooftop of the Tate on Howe during a shoot for Tegan and Sara’s new music video “Our Year,” featuring Lights and Felix Cartal.
The Story
Tegan and Sara released the song “Our Year” and an accompanying music video shot in Vancouver, featuring Lights and Felix Cartal.
The video includes sun-soaked scenes of parks and beaches, as well as shots from locations including the Museum of Vancouver and the City Centre Artist Lodge.
Police were called during a rooftop shot on top of the Tate on Howe, a 43-storey tower at 1283 Howe St., after people in the area spotted the group on the roof.
Lights said in a video posted by Tegan and Sara that the shoot had just finished when they realized officers were coming. “We had just finished the last shot,” she said. “We turn around and within seconds of her [the manager] saying 'Vancouver police are here,' they come out, they're trying to scare us, like intimidation tactics.”
Lights added that the officers questioned what was happening and the group explained what they were doing and who they were.
The interaction included an officer asking Felix Cartal for a selfie, and Lights said the police later apologized for interrupting the shoot. “Many sorries were spoken at the end of our video shoot for 'Our Year,'” Tegan and Sara wrote in a social media post.
The group posted that they did not have permits for some shots, including a scene filmed in front of the Museum of Vancouver.
In response to the museum-related footage, the Museum of Vancouver said on Instagram, “This is so lovely! Thanks for dancing in our empty fountain!”
