After a 4-1 win over the Calgary Flames, the Vancouver Canucks unveiled a new post-win player-of-the-game ritual centred on a bedazzled clock necklace.
The Story
The Vancouver Canucks introduced a new post-win tradition after beating the Calgary Flames 4-1 on Saturday night, with the player of the game receiving a Canucks-themed bedazzled clock necklace.
The team’s new ritual was inspired by Flavor Flav. Veteran Brock Boeser presented the oversized clock necklace to Liam Öhgren, who scored in the victory.
Boeser described the clock’s message to the team, saying, “A bedazzled clock with a chain starting at 7 a.m., not 7 p.m.” He added, “The first one is going to Ohgy, got us going.”
A detail of the clock is that its time is set to 7 a.m. rather than game time, reflecting the idea that the team’s work begins at the start of the day.
Öhgren also shared a brief message after donning the clock for the first time, saying, “Great win, boys. Get some rest and get at it tomorrow.”
The new tradition marks a departure from the previous player-of-the-game practice, which began midway through last season and featured the player receiving a battle axe inspired by first responders in the city.
