Bed Bath & Beyond Canada relaunches online, with first store planned for late 2027

Sleep Country Canada relaunched Bed Bath & Beyond Canada through an e-commerce site, aiming for a first brick-and-mortar location in late 2027.

The Story

Bed Bath & Beyond Canada has relaunched through a new e-commerce website as Sleep Country Canada prepares for a later return to physical retail, with a first store targeted for late 2027, according to Bed Bath & Beyond Canada president Carol Deacon.

The online relaunch follows about a year after Sleep Country purchased the Canadian and U.K. rights to the Bed Bath & Beyond name and logos from Overstock.com, repurposing trademarks that had been acquired by the online marketplace in 2023.

Bed Bath & Beyond Canada had filed for creditor protection and closed its stores amid “dramatic” declines in revenue, with the U.S. arm following months later, the company said in the context of its earlier shutdown.

Deacon said the company believes the timing is “right” and that the market is prepared for the brand’s return, pointing to the breadth of shopping options available online while also noting that physical retail offers distinct styles and designs.

The revived Canadian business will initially carry about 6,000 products across classic Bed Bath & Beyond categories including kitchen, décor, bedroom and bathroom, while also adding a mix of “trendier” and domestic brands.

Among the brands and product lines listed for the relaunch are KitchenAid, Umbra and Calvin Klein, alongside Lacoste, Smeg and Sleep Country affiliates Endy, Bloom, Simba and Silk and Snow.

Deacon said not every part of the business will change significantly, but two areas are being reworked more substantially for the relaunch: furniture and baby.

In furniture, the company is paring back at least initially, citing the competitive landscape and the practical challenges of shipping large items, Deacon said.

For baby, the retailer plans a narrower focus on products that help prepare a home for an infant rather than attempting to cover everything parents may need across the early years, while Deacon said the assortment will expand over time.

When the brand previously operated in Canada, it had 54 Bed Bath & Beyond stores and 11 BuyBuy Baby locations, but Deacon indicated the revived footprint is unlikely to mirror the scale or size of the former operation.

She said the brand is likely to be “more focused” than it was historically, with store strategy and location details still being worked out, and she described the expected approach as a smaller, more targeted footprint rather than large, heavily stocked properties.
