Charlie McAvoy’s late equalizer and James Hagens’ shootout finish carry Bruins past Capitals

For most of Sunday, the Washington Capitals were the side making Boston answer. The Bruins finally did, first with Charlie McAvoy’s slap shot at 18:17 of the third period and then with James Hagens’ backhand in the shootout, escaping TD Garden with a 3-2 NHL win after regulation and overtime ended tied 2-2.
