Police shut down eastbound Highway 1 at Kensington after collision causes major delays in Burnaby

Burnaby RCMP closed eastbound Highway 1 at Kensington Avenue on Tuesday morning after a collision.

The Story

DriveBC first posted about a motor vehicle incident on Highway 1 through Burnaby shortly before 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 6.

At that time, DriveBC reported that only the eastbound HOV lane at Kensington Avenue was moving, while other traffic did not have full access.

Cpl. Mike Kalanj of the Burnaby RCMP later said that eastbound Highway 1 at the Kensington exit had been shut down completely and that traffic was being diverted onto Canada Way at Kensington Avenue.

Police said drivers should avoid eastbound Highway 1 while officers deal with the incident, with the closure expected to remain in place through the morning rush hour.

The collision is under investigation, and police have not released details on any injuries.
