Vancouver police say officers arrested a 44-year-old man following a high-speed pursuit that ended with a vehicle interdiction near Waterfront Station on Monday.

Vancouver Police say officers were patrolling near East Hastings Street and Dunlevy Avenue shortly after 2:30 p.m. Monday when they noticed a parked BMW with Alberta plates and a woman in the front seat who appeared “visibly distraught.”
VPD says officers activated their emergency lights and sirens to conduct a welfare check, but the vehicle sped away. Police said the perceived threat to the passenger led to a pursuit being authorized.
The VPD says multiple police vehicles pursued the BMW into downtown Vancouver, where the suspect drove at high speeds, weaved into oncoming traffic, and showed a “complete disregard for public safety.”
Officers say they used a “vehicle interdiction tactic” near Waterfront Station to execute a “high-risk takedown,” which resulted in the arrest of a 44-year-old Alberta man.
Police said the man faces possible charges of forcible confinement, drug possession, and dangerous driving. VPD added that no injuries were reported, and the woman is cooperating with police.
