The Story
Burnaby RCMP say they are investigating after a man’s body was found lying in the eastbound lanes of Highway 1 just east of Kensington Monday morning.
Officers were called to the area shortly before 6 a.m.
In a statement, police said the man was obviously deceased and had injuries consistent with being hit by a vehicle.
RCMP said all eastbound lanes were closed to help ensure evidence could be preserved.
Police said it is possible the man was killed by a vehicle that then left the scene.
BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) Sgt. Michael McLaughlin said officers are investigating all possibilities and asked the public for help identifying anyone who saw anything unusual on Highway 1 near Kensington between 5:30 a.m. and 6 a.m. Monday.
McLaughlin said drivers with dash cam video from the area near Kensington in the minutes leading up to the body being found should call the BCHP at 604-526-9744, even if the video does not show the collision itself.
Police said they would be reviewing footage to look for any relevant information visible in the background.
