U.S. man arrested over conspiracy charge linked to Tumbler Ridge school shooting

Acting U.S. Attorney Neil Floyd says a 30-year-old western Washington man was arrested in connection with the February Tumbler Ridge Secondary School shooting.

The Story

Acting U.S. Attorney Neil Floyd said a 30-year-old defendant from western Washington has been arrested in connection with the February mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia.

Floyd said the arrest and criminal complaint stem from the school shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School on February 10, 2026.

Floyd said the defendant was arrested on a charge of conspiracy to murder persons in a foreign country.

On February 10, 2026, 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar opened fire at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, killing five students and an educational assistant before taking their own life.

At a nearby residence, Van Rootselaar’s mother and half-brother were also found dead.
