Vancouver Whitecaps have signed Thomas Müller to a Designated Player contract extension through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season.
The Story
Vancouver Whitecaps announced Tuesday that Thomas Müller has signed a Designated Player contract extension through the 2027 MLS Sprint Season.
Müller was previously unsigned beyond 2026, and the club said the extension comes after his production since joining the Whitecaps from Bayern Munich in August of last year.
Since joining, Müller has posted a team-high 31 goal contributions—19 goals and 12 assists—in 45 appearances.
The Whitecaps said Müller has generated a 19W-4L-6D record in his 29 MLS starts, including the MLS Cup Playoffs.
Müller said he has enjoyed his time in Vancouver, adding that the club has an offensive, possession-based style and that he feels good physically as he continues with the team.
The club also noted that 2027 will be a transition year for MLS, with the Sprint Season starting in February, a shortened 14-match regular season, and the MLS Cup awarded by May; the 2027-28 season would run from July 2027 to May 2028.
Whitecaps CEO and sporting director Axel Schuster said Müller has fully embraced the club, city, and province and has strengthened the group’s winning mentality, while playing a significant role in the club’s recent achievements.
Schuster said the Whitecaps made their first-ever MLS Cup and have established themselves as one of the top teams in the league, and called the extension a continuation of the club’s pursuit of trophies.
